Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm a mom of 5 kids and I am passionate about documenting their lives.

My oldest two sons were officially diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in January of 2004--when they were 4 and 2, respectively--and it began to make sense why I could never get the studio settings of big chain photographers to work for them. We went for a long time without many really GOOD pictures of the boys, and as our family grew, I became more and more restless about this. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and learn photography! Once I had the skills to photograph my own sons in a way that they found comfortable, without harsh flashes or lots handling and posing, I wanted to share it with other families who faced the same challenges creating keepsakes of their family's life.

Along the way, I've discovered I just love photographing everyone! So what started as a very focused journey in chronicling my own family's story has become a passion and an artistic outlet.

And now for something completely different...

So back in the day in high school and at BYU, my friend Melissa and I were pretty much inseperable. We were zany and brainy and funny. I have so many good memories of eating lunch at BYU, hanging out in Melissa's basement and listening to Broadway music and memorizing the stages of red giant formation for Astronomy, going to movies, making tortellini...man, I could go on and on.

Then I got married and she went off and got a bunch of graduate degrees and became a famous playwright...wow, does that make me sound boring or WHAT? But we didn't see each other as much.

However, we've always been in touch and Melissa is putting up an awesome play at the Provo Theatre Company called Standing Still Standing and I got to go do some production stills. Now, it was a totally new area of photography for me and it was a lot of fun. Lighting was a challenge, but since I have the coolest camera on the block it all worked out. (I also borrowed Crystal's 70-200 L lens...mmmmmm. I want one. BAD.)

This is just a smattering of photos. If you want to see more, click here.

It was a totally good learning experience and it's always fun to watch the Mark II handle 3200 ISO like it was cake. :)
